Masterplan ripped up

As reported in the Thurrock Gazette, Friday 14 March 2008, “Borough Tories’ blast for DC green belt plans. Anger over DC snub”.

“Leading Thurrock politicians have declared war with the borough’s government-instigated Development Corporation over building on green belt land……

Now senior Tories have demonstrated their dissatisfaction and anger by symbolically ripping up its masterplan fo East Thurrock“.

The group presented Angela Smith our MP with a copy of the Save Corringham Green Belt petition at Corringham library last Friday 7th March 2008.

Green Belt Protection Still Paramount

News: On the 26th February 2008, Stephen Metcalfe, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for East Thurrock, released the following statement:

Stephen Metcalfe, prospective Conservative Member of Parliament for south Basildon & East Thurrock met last week with John King OBE, Headteacher at Gable Hall School and Consultants from the company proposing to build over 1500 houses on greenbelt land in Corringham, as outlined in the recent publication, ‘East Thurrock: Masterplan Options’.

As part of the proposal, a new £40m ’state-of-the-art’ school would be created in the middle of the development. Continue Reading »

News: Angela Smith has spoken out following a visit to the East Thurrock Matser Plan exhibition in Corringham Library. On the 11th February 2008 Angela Smith MP issued the following statement:

Corringham Green belt/ development proposals

Angela is concerned at the size of the proposed development on green spaces in Corringham. She said, “We have to protect the green spaces of our area, and also find suitable sites for more affordable housing – or there will be nowhere for youngsters growing up in East Thurrock to live.
